Unnamed Spatial Sound Tool Suite
My first attempt at building a scratchbuilt object-based spatial sound mixing and rendering platform. The unique pieces of the system are:
- It intended to be used in various spaces with various configurations and numbers of speakers in the array, thus each of these variables are designed parametrically.
- Its visualization and its real-time rendering are designed hand-in-hand, thus it can natively visualize what is going on in the audio environment.
I’ve sued it thus far only in science and engineering situations where I need to be able to manipulate physics simulation variables at a very minute level.
Ongoing development of this project involves novel control methods for the positions of these sound objects. I am working on an installation where audience members can carry physical objects around the space that correspond with auditory ones. Thus a subject could “carry” the a drum loop around the room and the audience will hear the specialization change accordingly.
